Remarks

The homeowner asked if we could reconstruct the balcony over their front porch.

The original design was based on a wooden framework supported by two brick piers. Apparently, during a storm, one column had crashed to the ground and took with it half of the old balustrade. This could have been a very unfortunate accident, but thankfully no one was injured.

We showed the client a range of glass balustrades and they finally opted for a contemporary frameless solution. This can be installed without posts, supports or handrails and provides a very clean and stylish appearance.

We then went back to site and took the final measurements so that we could produce the detailed drawings. The balustrades were then manufactured and delivered directly to the home.

Work commenced, shortly afterwards. We started by reconstructing the porch. We installed additional timber supports to accommodate the heavy glass track and the reinforced heavy duty safety glass panels. We also installed a new timber roof deck together with seamless GRP (Glass Fibre) waterproofing. As an extra enhancement we installed new rubber protection tiles and pebbles around the perimeter to allow for good drainage. The owners were very pleased with the aesthetics of this and pleased that it would also protect their GRP roofing from damage.

At the end of the project the owners expressed how delighted they were with the new appearance of the front façade. They were especially pleased that the area was now safe and useable and that the home had taken on a more modern appearance. What is more, it is likely that this work has significantly increased the value of their property.
